Cam Edwards, editor and host of Bearing Arms 40 acres and a fool podcast, sat down with our own Brett Smith to discuss the left’s ongoing battle against the Second Amendment.
The conversation quickly dived into the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) latest “ruling” about so-called stabilizer braces.
Edwards explained that the stabilizing brace, as its name suggests, “provides more stability for the shooter” and was originally designed to assist gun owners with disabilities.
But an arbitrary ATF ruling that just went into effect Jan. 31 makes pistol-stabilizing brackets subject to additional regulations, including higher taxes, longer waiting periods and registration.
“ATF’s new definition of stabilizing the bracket is arbitrary… Every American gun owner is at risk of facing potential criminal charges at the whim of these bureaucrats and without any new laws.” -Jason Ouimet, NRA-ILA https://t.co/xV2gETKGvJ

Gun control advocates argue that the brace converts a pistol into a short-barreled rifle, which is heavily regulated under the National Firearms Act.
“To own one of those you have to register with the government, you have to pay a $200 tax stamp, and if you don’t it’s a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine,” Edwards explained.

Cam Edwards explains current issues surrounding the War on the Second Amendment
ATF’s staunch bracket rule was so tough that it prompted Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to introduce legislation to ban the government agency.
If the government wants to restrict certain types of firearms, in theory they have that power. Through Congress, altering or outright repealing the Second Amendment, not through bureaucratic rule.
This absurdly bad idea would criminalize the possession of commonly owned weapons while doing nothing to stop actual violent crime. This is the equivalent of asking gun control officers to shoot themselves in the foot; Both dangerous and dumb.

“I think it’s part and parcel of a strategy on the part of the ATF and their allies in the gun control movement to try to rewrite the law through a government agency rather than a vote in Congress,” Edwards said.
He then added that it was apparently an attempt by the movement to “be seen [what] The court will let them escape.”

Assault weapons are any guns they want to ban
Bearing Arms editor Cam Edwards also tackles a far-reaching ban on so-called assault weapons in Illinois, signed into law by Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker last month.
The law almost immediately prompted lawsuits, including one by the National Rifle Association and the Illinois State Rifle Association, who argued the ban violated the Second Amendment.
Smith and Edwards point out that phrases like ‘assault weapon’ and ‘large capacity magazine’ are essentially “made up terms”.
“I’ve always said that the real definition of assault weapons is ‘guns they want to ban,'” Edwards said.
“That, I think, is their ultimate goal,” Edwards continued. “Banning as many guns as possible by labeling them assault weapons.”

The podcast host noted that it’s “ridiculous” to think criminals care about these laws at all.
“These laws are meant to discourage law-abiding gun owners from exercising a constitutional right,” Edwards added, pointing to lawsuits currently underway in Illinois.
Edwards and Smith also discussed the involuntary manslaughter charges against Alec Baldwin. Watch the “The Ongoing War Against the Second Amendment” interview with Cam Edwards below.
