According to a CNN report, special counsel Jack Smith has fought at least eight secret court cases targeting Trump.

Jack Smith, who just returned from Europe after recovering from a bike accident, is going full steam ahead with his investigation into whether Trump committed a crime.

The special counsel is investigating whether Trump broke the law when he took White House records to Mar-a-Lago, and another part of the investigation is believed to be related to Jan. 6.

However, Jack Smith has now expanded his investigation and is looking into Trump’s efforts to combat 2020 election fraud in key swing states.

Jack Smith is now “locked in” to at least 8 secret court battles related to Trump, CNN reported.

CNN reported:

Special counsel Jack Smith is locked in at least eight secret court battles aimed at uncovering some of the most closely held details about Donald Trump’s actions and handling of classified material after the 2020 election, according to sources and court records reviewed by CNN.

The outcome of these disputes could have far-reaching implications, as they revolve around the 2024 presidential candidates and lead courts to shape laws around the presidency, separation of powers and attorney-client privilege like they have never done before.

Yet almost all proceedings are sealed, and filings and decisions are not public.

The number of grand jury challenges from potential witnesses is both a reflection of the scope of the special counsel’s investigation and a feature of Trump’s hyper-confrontational style in the face of investigations.

By comparison, Robert Mueller’s grand jury investigation into Trump had a flurry of sealed proceedings in which investigators used the courts for more answers, and independent counsel Kenneth Starr’s Whitewater investigation ultimately had seven similar sealed cases.

A key sealed filing released Wednesday is an attempt to force more answers about direct conversations between Trump and his defense attorney Evan Corcoran, with the Justice Department arguing the investigation found evidence the conversations may have been part of furthering or covering up a crime.
