Guards opened fire after the intruder entered the Joint Base Andrews housing area

On Monday an intruder entered Joint Base Andrews where Air Force One and other presidential aircraft such as a “doomsday” plane are stored.

A guard opened fire on the intruder before security personnel rushed to arrest him.

“A person gained unauthorized access to the JBA housing area. A resident discharged a firearm, security forces arrived on scene to arrest the intruder and law enforcement is investigating the incident,” Joint Base Andrews said in a tweet.

An intruder broke into Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, where the president’s Air Force One planes are kept, and was soon opened fire by a base resident on Monday.

The man gained access to the base on Monday morning before being spotted in a housing area inside the base. JBA has AF1 jets and other presidential aircraft. A base resident fired a single shot inside the building and then security personnel arrived to arrest the man. He remains unidentified.

“A person gained unauthorized access to the JBA housing area. A resident discharged a firearm, security forces arrived on scene to arrest the intruder and law enforcement is investigating the incident,” Joint Base Andrews said in a statement posted on Twitter.

In addition to Air Force One planes, hangars at the base house giant “doomsday” planes that can serve as a mobile command center for the president in the event of a major emergency, according to the Associated Press.

Officials did not specify the man’s motive for entering the facility, though their investigation is ongoing.
