Donald Trump slammed Chris Christie as a “scumbag” after the former New Jersey governor announced that he doesn’t think the Republican candidate can beat President Biden in 2024.
“‘Sloppy’ Chris Christie, the failed former governor of New Jersey, spent almost an entire year campaigning for office in New Hampshire for the Republican nomination for president,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
“Like much of his tenure in office, where he left with just a 9% approval rating, his presidential campaign was a complete disaster.”
Trump added that he “never wanted” Christie as an ally and that his career was only “saved” by “ABC Fake News.”
That approval rating number wasn’t far off, as Christie left office as the least popular governor in his state’s history.

Trump’s slant was in response to an ABC News interview in which Chris Christie said he did not believe the Republican candidate would win a rematch with President Biden.
Christie predicted the GOP would field a large field of candidates willing to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination, an idea some say will help him win a crowded field in 2016.
“Can Trump beat Biden?” asked ABC’s Jonathan Karl.
“I don’t think so,” Christy replied.
Recent polls have shown that Donald Trump is well positioned against Biden in a rematch of the 2020 presidential race.
Trump, in fact, is now viewed more favorably than President Biden, Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to a Harvard Capps Harris poll conducted between January 18 and 19.
The prevailing view among opponents like Christie is that Trump is too unlikely to defeat Biden in 2024.
By contrast, the same Harvard Caps Harris poll conducted between January 18 and 19 indicated that he would beat the president by a wider margin than any other GOP candidate.

Christie is angry with Trump’s ‘Trantram’
Christie responded to Trump’s comments on Twitter calling him “nonsense.”
“I am the target of Donald Trump’s new rampage,” Christie wrote. “None of his lies about me today bothered him when he asked me to prepare him for every general election debate or offered me 3 different cabinet positions.”
“He’s the only person who lost to Biden outside of Delaware,” he added. “That loss still stings.”

While it’s true that Christie was once a close ally of Trump, he has recently pushed away from him in a way he would never push away at a buffet table.
Aside from apparently being the world’s first failed lap band surgery recipient, he has a ton of baggage for New York and New Jersey acquaintances — from Bridgegate to the unwritten truce between him and ultra-liberal NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
That said, Christie was an early supporter of Trump during the 2016 campaign, serving as an attack dog to help unseat Marco Rubio during the debates.
And few remember that Christie was actually Trump’s first choice for vice president in 2016, before being convinced otherwise by his inner circle.
