Trump blasted DeSantis in a late-night truth social post, but said he wouldn’t call

Former President Donald Trump threw some jabs at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in a late-night post on Truth Social over the weekend.

Although DeSantis has not officially announced a 2024 presidential campaign, he is currently the only potential contender with numbers even close to Trump’s.

There has been speculation, including in the New York Times, that Trump might change his nickname for the governor from “Ron Dissanctimonious” to “Meatball Ron,” but Trump said that’s not true.

“I will never call Ron the Dissanctimonious ‘Meatball’ Ron, because Fake News insists I do,” Trump wrote in the post. “While honored by Fox News killing lightweight Paul Ryan, low-energy Jeb Bush is his hero and always by his side, his beaches and states have been closed for too long, his test, test, not tested for China virus may very well work. No, and his obedience skills are really poor, it would be totally inappropriate for Ron to use the word ‘meatball’!

In another post, Trump said it was clear DeSantis would try to challenge him in the Republican primary.

“All the fake news is reporting that I spend a lot of my time coming up with a good ‘nickname’ for Ron De Sanctimonious, who is apparently going to give the presidential ‘thing’ a shot,” Trump wrote.

Trump also pointed to the fact that he is dominating the polls in terms of hypothetical primary matchups.

“Just took a huge lead in the polls. People want to make America great again, and fast. Right now, we are a nation of decadence! Donald J. Trump – 50%, Ron Desanctimonious – 24%, Mike Pence – 9%, Nikki Haley – 7%, Ted Cruz – 4%. Head to Head: Donald J. Trump – 61%. Thanks!” Trump posted.
