“To get ahead in journalism you have to lie for the CIA”

Glenn Greenwald: Seymour Hersh is being attacked for reporting “what most rational people already believe”

Speaking on his YouTube show, Glenn Greenwald went against journalists who wanted to discredit fellow investigative reporter Seymour Hersh. “What you can’t do, as Hersh did, is spread ‘conspiracy theories’ that go against the narrative of the US security state, which undermines US foreign policy. It’s the only thing that’s forbidden,” Greenwald said.

Seymour Hersh “has long been loathed in Washington circles … for refusing to play ball” which was “the hallmark of good reporting,” but not “in an era of corporatized media,” Greenwald said.

Hersh is being attacked for reporting “what most rational people already believe: It wasn’t Russia that blew up its own Nord Stream pipeline,” “rather it was the United States.” Greenwald called Seymour Hersh “the most famous journalist of his generation”.

Greenwald cites a story by Mia Jankovic in “Business Insider” titled “Discredited Journalist’s Claim That US Secretly Blowed Up Nord Stream Pipeline Was A Gift To Putin.”

“who”Business Insider‘And Mia Jankovich would talk about Cy Hersh like that? Who insulted Cy Hersh?”, Greenwald said. “Not a single person on this site has ever broken a story, yet they talk about him as if he’s somehow unexplained.”

“Is this proving a gift to Putin? Who cares? The only question a real journalist asks is, ‘Is the story true?’ And if it’s true, you publish it, who does it help or hurt. Is this obsession ‘a gift for Trump’ or a gift for Putin – that’s not something a real journalist thinks or cares about. You only The thing that cares about is ‘Is it true?’

“These people are propagandists. That’s how they think”, said Greenwald.

Business Insider Claimed that Hersh’s reporting was “poorly-sourced, conspiratorial, and overly reliant on anonymous sources.” Democrats tried to impeach President Trump on bogus allegations by an “anonymous whistleblower” who turned out to be a Biden veteran working with Rep. Adam Schiff.

Business Insider Citing shady propaganda outlets belling cat, which was “deeply critical of (Harsh’s) report on the Syrian chemical attack.”

Glenn Greenwald called Bellingcat“essentially a US-government funded outlet”, which “receives funding from NEDs created by the CIA and the State Department. Intervening in other countries and destabilizing regimes like Syria?

“It also receives funding from the EU”, Greenwald said. “We get a lot of our money from donors like the Open Society Foundation,” Bellingcat Founder Elliott Higgins told the Guardian in 2018.

“Of course Bellingcat Seymour Hersh is not liked because his reporting undermines the narrative of the US security state and Western media outlets”, said Greenwald.

“And giants of journalism Vox“, Greenwald said, “casts doubt on (Hersh’s) infamous 2015 claim that President Barack Obama did not actually mastermind the killing of Osama bin Laden”, according to Business Insider.

“Many of the claims about the killing of Osama bin Laden were false, (including) how bin Laden picked up his wives and used them as shields, that bin Laden and his crew opened fire – most of these claims were changed. Greenwald said.

“But you can’t be skeptical of the claims of the US government or the US security state,” Greenwald said, “or it happens to you. They start calling you ‘disreputable’, ‘conspiracy theorist.’

“The people who lie the most, the people who spread the most conspiracy theories, are the people who thrive in corporate journalism,” Greenwald said. “That’s the only way forward.” The difference is, “You have to spread lies and conspiracy theories on behalf of the CIA and that will advance the interests of the US government. It is not only allowed, it needs to be promoted”, according to Greenwald.

“What you can’t do, as Hersh did, is spread ‘conspiracy theories’ that go against the narrative of the US security state, which undermines US foreign policy. It is the only thing that is prohibited. That’s what gets you out of journalism.”

“They wouldn’t deny” the Hersh story “if it wasn’t true”.
