The entire leadership of New Jersey Town changed from Democrat to Republican

The entire leadership of the city of East Hanover, New Jersey has just switched from Democrat to Republican.

It’s probably safe to assume the economy and crime were the reasons for the change, but you have to wonder if other factors were at play.

Would anyone be surprised if this started happening in other states?

City leaders in NJ town go from Dem to GOP

City leaders in East Hanover, NJ, including longtime Mayor Joseph Panullo, have switched party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, according to the Daily Record.

The entire township council joined Pannulo in making the switch.

“Municipal leaders have a responsibility to represent their constituents, and we believe this party change is in the best interest of the community,” Pannullo, who has served as mayor since 2007, said in a statement.

“As the vitriol, rhetoric, and social media of national politics continue to infiltrate local governance, we collectively determined that this was the best course of action to focus on local issues affecting our communities.”

Morris County Democratic Chairwoman Amalia Duarte said she was disappointed by the move.

“But, the reality is that Morris County is quickly trending more Democratic, as we saw in the last election cycle. We won new municipal seats, made Morris Township fully Democratic, and all of our incumbents, including East Hanover, were re-elected,” he added.

It seems like a pretty big story.

If the city’s leadership changed from GOP to Democrat, it would be a national news story.

Because it might be perceived as a victory for Republicans, it will be ignored.
