Green lasers spotted over Hawaii “probably” from Chinese satellites

ZeroHedge published an article this morning pointing to reports that the mysterious laser beams seen in Hawaii last month may be related to China.

Late last month, a mysterious green laser beam was spotted from Hawaii’s tallest peak. Experts initially said the burst of laser beams was emitted by a NASA spacecraft but this was proven wrong this week – with evidence pointing to a Chinese satellite.

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) space experts initially Dr Tweeted On January 30th the Subaru-Asahi Star Camera “captured green laser lights in the cloudy sky above Maunakea, Hawaii. The lights are believed to be from a remote-sensing altimeter satellite ICESAT-2/43613.”

But on February 6, a week later, the NAOJ issued a correction on YouTube saying the laser beams were not from a US spacecraft but the “likely candidate” was a “Chinese Daqi-1/AEMS satellite”.

“According to Dr. Martino, Anthony J., a NASA scientist working on ICESat-2 ATLAS, this is not by their instrument, but by others,” explains a correction note on the YouTube video.

“His colleagues, Dr. Alvaro Ivanoff et al., simulated the trajectories of satellites that have a similar instrument and found a possible candidate as the ACDL instrument by the Chinese Daqi-1/AEMS satellite.

“We really appreciate their efforts in light detection. We regret our confusion regarding this event and its potential impact on the ICESat-2 team.”
